Coding: The New 21st Century Literacy?

Ms. Hickman

Recently I read a new article about coding. This article was called "Coding: The New 21st Century Literacy?", written by school administrator Scott Lafee on May 2017. In this article it talked about how important coding, and taking computer science courses in school is and can be in today's world. Laffe goes on to talk about the importance of starting young in the elementary years to help them further their knowledge and computer coding skills for a longer period of time. He does note that just because he believes that computer sciences should be added to curriculum that, that doesn't mean these students need to become computer technicians. However he believes that it will help them in other aspects of life.

Personally I agree with Lafee. I think that coding, and computer science are very important subjects especially in our growing technological world today. As stated in the article communication and entertainment are becoming more and more advanced and just by learning the basics in coding and computer sciences you child will be better suited for the world around them.
